Placemaking: Clute Town Center

Another focus of the planning study has been the area around Commerce and Plantation streets. After listening to citizen input, the planning team designed changes to improve traffic flow and create a Clute Town Center, with retail space, landscaping, parking, and distinctive branding for the City.

Planning is in the early stages, with more work and coordination with local landowners and businesses to come. This early “proof of concept” is designed to lay that foundation for more local amenities, shopping opportunities, and food choices. It’s designed to be built in stages.

The above animation shows Clute Town Center in the following phases:

  • 0 Years - As the intersection of Planation and Main looks today

  • 0-3 Years - This first phase will look to build upon the success of El Toro, with the addition of other types of retail on that eastern side of Main Street. This phase will also look at redesigning how Commerce connects with Main Street to create safer traffic conditions.

  • 3-5 Years - The next phase will look at the redesign of the Plantation and Main intersection, as well as adding street trees and median landscaping to beautify the this entry point into the heart of Clute.

  • 3-5 Years - Occurring separate from the Main Street improvements, this phase would add additional retail opportunities to the western side of Main Street.

  • 5-15 Years - The final portion of the Clute Town Center vision, completing a place that could be enjoyed for many years to come.
